For some couples, weddings are all about tradition. For others, it’s more important that their day reflect them as a couple, even if their plans don’t include the usual wedding “musts.” If you’re in the latter group, this post is for you. Whether you are on the hunt for some urban wedding inspiration, looking for ideas to suit a Rockabilly wedding theme or rainbow wedding colour scheme, or just wanting to see how you can incorporate your own uniqueness as a couple into your day, I hope that this helps!

First off- venue. If historic castles and luxury hotels aren’t your thing, that’s okay! There are loads of unique & quirky wedding venues in and around Glasgow (and across Scotland) that will definitely bring something different to the table. And if you are looking for an alternative wedding venue in Glasgow, Scotland, there are few more unique than Saint Luke’s & The Winged Ox! This converted church turned live music & event venue has all the character of a beautiful historic building, but with a quirky, modern vibe.

Best of all? You can really make it your own by adding customized details that suit who you are, like we did for this shoot. Choosing a rockabilly theme and a rainbow colour scheme, and finding our inspiration from couples who aren’t afraid to plan their day their way, this talented group of Glasgow wedding suppliers came together to create some wedding magic!

It’s the details that make a wedding unique, and when it comes to floral design Amanda of The Floral Design Boutique is full of exciting ideas! Aside from this cute & quirky rainbow bridal bouquet, Amanda worked colourful ribbons and greenery into her design, adding a personalised touch to the entrance of the venue. Wedding flowers can be so much more than bouquets & buttonholes, and Amanda is your gal for creating show-stopping floral design customized to perfectly suit both your venue and you!

David at Bottled Love┬áput his creative talents to good use, designing a full set of one of a kind stationery for our shoot, with some really neat retro inspired ideas. David’s creativity is second to none, and as a graphic designer he can truly make your stationery stand out from the crowd. Think wedding invites are all the same? This guy will prove you wrong!

Next up was our cake, designed by the fabulous Louise of Louise Barrie Cakes. Amazingly, Louise & David never spoke to each other about the specifics of their designs, yet ended up with perfectly matched imagery- great minds really do think alike! Louise is always up for a challenge and welcomes creative challenges (like a Rockabilly- themed wedding cake)!

When it comes to venue dressing, Make Believe Events are well known in Scotland and have a wide variety of options for decorating any venue you choose. For this shoot they created three different table setups in different styles to show just how unique your decor can be, depending on what you’re looking for.

We chose a real couple to act as our models for this shoot, because let’s face it: intimacy like this just can’t be faked! It was important to us that our ‘bride’ and ‘groom’ had a real connection, and were comfortable and relaxed and very obviously in love. Katie & Robert made the perfect pair- laughing and smiling their way through the day and keeping things light and fun as we wandered through The Barras and the East End of Glasgow.

Stunning as these two are, where would we be without a hair & makeup artist? Enter Jenna of Jenna Clayton Makeup Artist! Jenna’s friendly attitude and modern, creative style define her and her work- and as usual she’s done an amazing job of finding and enhancing the couple’s natural style. An edgy look with a vintage vibe- perfect for our Rockabilly theme!

Now on to the bridal gowns- if you’re the type of girl who wants to surprise your guests with an outfit change, Lisa at Dragonfly Dress Design┬ácan help you out! She created not one, but two one of a kind gowns to suit our theme, and even decorated a leather jacket to add another unique touch! Lisa is creative and crafty, creating custom wedding dresses in Glasgow that suit each individual bride’s body & style. I love seeing colour in a wedding gown!

Not all suits are the same- especially not when they are custom designed and made for you by Alan at Ten 30 Fashion. From selecting your material to tailoring the suit just for you, Ten 30’s suits are definitely unique and perfect for the groom who is looking for something a little different.

Last but not least photography (by me of course)! For me photography has always been about capturing real, honest interactions and that’s why I prefer to work with real couples rather than traditional models. (In this case, our real couple also moonlight as alternative models- but most important they are two people very much in love!) Robert & Katie were so much fun to work with- they are both laid back, fun-loving people and are so obviously head over heels for each other it made my job easy! I love Glasgow, and I love the retro feel of the East End. This neighbourhood is really one of a kind and I totally fell for the vintage signs, cool architecture and quirky backdrop it made for our shoot. As someone who has always preferred living in the city centre, I can’t help but love urban wedding photography. Pair that with a couple who plans a wedding true to who they are, and it’s a match made in heaven! My kind of wedding.
