Claire + Dan | Culcreuch Castle Wedding Photographer, Scotland
Every couple has a story about how they met. I love hearing them- it helps me get to know the people I’m working with and it’s lovely to hear how it all began. Claire and Dan’s is one of those once-in-a-lifetime love stories I don’t think I’ll ever forget. As a young adult, Dan, who is from the highlands, discovered he had a half brother living in Glasgow. Thanks to the magic of social media, they met up and quickly forged a friendship. As Dan’s sister-in-law got to know him, she quickly realized she had a friend he would be perfect for. Enter Claire- and the rest is history. Dan says it was the luckiest year of his life, as he gained a brother and soulmate. Now how’s that for a meet cute?
When I first met Claire & Dan, I knew they were my kind of people. Easy going and fun, they told me they were planning a wedding that was all about fun- my kind of day too! It was so nice to get to know these two, hear their uber-romantic engagement story and see Dan’s daredevil antics first hand at our pre-wedding shoot. Claire and Dan chose Ross Priory, Loch Lomond for our pre wedding session, as it’s the spot where the couple got engaged. Here’s another story worth sharing (yes, this post is about to get even more romantic!): Dan chose Ross Priory for a very special reason- from this spot, your view over the loch shows you the exact spot where the lowlands meet the highlands. Seeing as Claire is from the lowlands and Dan from the highlands, it seemed like the perfect place to get down on one knee. Tearing up yet? If you’re in need of a laugh after all that emotional stuff, Dan also shared that he tried to sneakily set up a camera to record the proposal BUT because of where he placed it, when he knelt down he was actually out of frame of the camera, so there is no video evidence of the big moment. Not that it matters, as I don’t think they will be forgetting that day anytime soon!
Knowing all this, I was pretty sure we were in for quite the day and I was right! Their wedding at Culcreuch Castle in Fintry, Scotland was one of the most relaxed, fun and emotional weddings I’ve photographed. From the excited anticipation and the heartfelt gift Dan sent to Claire in the morning, to a very personal ceremony to some of the most emotional (and funny) speeches I’ve ever heard, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up a bit on at least one occasion during their day. Here are the highlights!
Side note: Culcreuch Castle is quickly becoming one of my favourite wedding venues in Scotland! From quirky details and dramatic rooms to the beautiful woods behind the Scottish castle, and a friendly team making sure everything runs smoothly I can’t wait to go back!
